The Math 8 students are in "crunch" time as they prepare for the New York State test. While working on transformations ( translation, reflection, rotation and dilation ), they are also reviewing previously taught concepts. Various resources are being utilized so that the students will be comfortable with the format of the test as well as with the wording of the questions. Attention to detail is being stressed.
In addition to reviewing for the State test the Algebra students are pressing on with their regents concepts. Polynomials are the current topic. Performing the four mathematical operations on polynomials leads to factoring polynomials. Upon mastering the concepts the graphing of quadratic functions will take place.
Solving equations and inequalities will keep the Math 7 group busy until Easter break. One and two step equations and inequalities will be solved. The students will also work on graphing the solutions of inequalities.
The Accelerated Math 7 students will also be working on solving equations and inequalities. The group's work will extend to a study of functions including graphing functions and solving systems of equations.
After school Math help will take place on Mondays for the Algebra students and on Tuesdays for the Math 8 students.
An "old friend" has returned. To assist students with tracking their homework assignments, they will be receiving an assignment sheet every Monday. This sheet will indicate the lesson that will be covered each day as well as the homework assignment for the day. The assignment sheet will also assist students in staying abreast of work they may miss due to absence.

7/8 Math Overview: The Junior High students develop a strong foundation in the concepts of algebra and geometry, moving them from elementary to high school mathematics. Using real life situations to present mathematical concepts, enables the students to see the importance of Math in their everyday lives. Hands-on activities lead students from concrete concepts to the abstract. Students explore the patterns in Math as problem solving tools and explore using a variety of methods to arrive at a single solution to a given problem.
While the textbook is the main resource material for the students, the course of study is based on the Common Core State Standards. The following link enables you to view the document.
All Junior High Math students will experience the format of the New York State test as well as the wording of the questions. Being familiar with the test format will lead to less "test anxiety" when taking the assessment in April of eighth grade.
The students taking Algebra 1 will not only prepare for the April Grade 8 State test but also for the June Regents exam.
STUDENTS IN SEVENTH GRADE AND EIGHTH GRADE MATH CLASSES HAVE ACCESS TO THE ONLINE TEXTBOOK. THE TEXT CAN BE ACCESSED AT connected.mcgraw-hill.com EACH STUDENT HAS RECEIVED HIS/HER PERSONAL USER NAME AND PASSWORD.
PARENTS CAN KEEP UP TO DATE WITH THEIR CHILD'S MATH PROGRESS THROUGH THE PARENT PORTAL ABAILABLE AT ESCHOOL DATA. THE PORTAL IS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE FOLLOWING LINK:
