Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy

Students that receive speech therapy have small groups or individual sessions based on their Individual Education Plan (IEP). You are encouraged to be a partner in your child’s learning and participate in meetings related to this plan.

During speech, we work on many aspects of communication:

  • speech production/articulation/fluency (using clear speech understood by others)
  • receptive language (following directions, listening/understanding),
  • expressive language (vocabulary, grammar, story telling),
  • social/pragmatic language (conversation skills, taking turns),
  • phonological awareness skills (letter/sound knowledge).

Of course, not all is accomplished at school! The students and I strive to find ways to apply our learning from the therapy room to the classroom and home. Communication is important and can be practiced in so many (functional) ways!

I look forward to working with the CAWB family again this school year. If you have any questions/concerns related to speech-language, please do not hesitate to contact me by email Rmango@buffaloschools.org or leave a message with the school’s main office.
