Grades 6, 7 & 8 Science

November 2024

Welcome to our new Science lab!

Parents, I apologize for the delay in introducing myself.  I have been enjoying getting to know all of the wonderful Science Scholar Students (This is what I call them and what I predict them to be, leaving No Child left behind!), staff, and parents here at CAWB  I am Ms. Reed-McCoy the new Science Teacher for Middle School, grades 6, 7 & 8.

It is my first year here at CAWB and I bring with me many years of experience of my specialty, which is working with children with special needs. Providing diverse education to empower students to be the very best that they can be, is God's Gift that he has given to me.  God has granted me the opportunity

to share this gift with your wonderfully blessed students! Thank you for making me feel so welcomed into the Exceptional CAWB educational environment!  I’m looking forward to a very productive school year.

Since the beginning of the year, we have been taking the time to familiarize ourselves with each other as well as science lab safety and the scientific process. Students are asked; “What is science?” after a discussion, students were presented a video given plenty of information vocabulary to aid in inspiring our student’s minds to formulate those scientific ideas, theories, questions, concepts, and solutions. I have experienced a wide response of encouraging engagement from our students!

We have been working our way through the science curriculum using various methods and resources to enhance our CAWB students to become scientific scholars.  I am trying to provide diverse resources to inspire reflections and engagements of every student, on the lessons being taught.  Having discussions, working in groups/pairs/individually, videos, websites, hands on experiences, assignments, projects, labs, online games and quizzes. These options have empowered and encouraged independence for our various learners. It is my goal to provide a positive, welcoming, and enjoyable learning environment.

We are enjoying opportunities to get to know each other, have positive discussions, review prior knowledge, rules of the classroom, safety rules, safety signs of the science lab, scientific method, working in groups/partners. Using our Christ-like values as we research and learn, Students have been busy as they produce projects to present their learning, using displays, as we all are working towards getting our scientific environment together that is comfortable for all of us. The students are enjoying being a part of the process.  As I continue to unpack, we will be presented more hands on opportunities, usage of different tools/equipment in our science lab, how to use them and where to find them.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at mreedmccoy@cawb.org.

Once again, welcome to Science. Let’s work together to make this the best year ever!
