7th Grade Mathematics
Welcome to 7th Grade Math
Well, whadda ya know? The first few weeks of Math class this is what we will explore. Students will review several skills they should have mastered in 6th grade. We will identify the areas that each student may need to further practice and we will use several avenues to master them. This includes IXL and KhanAcademy.com as well as handouts.
The 7th Grade Mathematics program at Catholic Academy is aligned with the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards and is designed to build a strong foundation in mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Our goal is to prepare students for success in future math courses while helping them see the relevance of math in everyday life.
Curriculum Overview:
Students engage with a variety of mathematical concepts through rigorous instruction and hands-on learning, including:
- Ratios and Proportional Relationships: Analyzing proportional situations and solving real-world problems involving rates, ratios, and percentages
- The Number System: Extending understanding of rational numbers, including operations with integers, fractions, and decimals.
- Expressions and Equations: Developing algebraic thinking through solving multi-step equations and inequalities.
- Geometry: Understanding and applying concepts of area, surface area, volume, and angle relationships.
- Statistics and Probability: Drawing inferences from data, comparing populations, and evaluating probability models.
- Mathematical Practices: Focusing on reasoning, precision, strategic use of tools, and making sense of complex problems.
Instructional Tools and Supports:
- IXL is used regularly to provide personalized practice, reinforce classroom instruction, and help students master essential math skills at their own pace.
- The STAR Math assessment is administered multiple times a year to monitor student progress, identify strengths and areas for growth, and guide differentiated instruction.
Program Goals:
- Build fluency with rational numbers and operations.
- Develop a deep understanding of proportional reasoning and algebraic concepts.
- Strengthen problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Provide personalized support to meet individual learning needs.
- Prepare students for 8th Grade Math and readiness for Algebra I.
Our 7th Grade Math program encourages a growth mindset and emphasizes both academic achievement and a positive attitude toward learning math.

8th Grade Integrated Algebra Plan December 2025/January 2026
The class has spent the first marking period getting an introduction to Algebra, and learning about the relationships between linear equations, their graphs and practical uses of equations.
In January we will be exploring more applications of linear relationships and also examine systems of equations. I will be setting up a Google classroom with assignments posted daily so parents can check up on and help their child with their homework.
