Catholic Academy of West Buffalo is pleased to welcome students back for the 2018 - 2019 school year. We have made repairs to the gym walls and a new coat of paint has made the gym sparkle! All homerooms have new interactive boards that will enhance our educational program immensely. We have several new teachers in the building and are thrilled that Pre-K 3 has returned! The Annual Welcome Back Picnic is on Friday, September 14th. The picnic begins at 5:30 and admission cost is $2 per person. There will be fun Science Technology Engineering Math challenges in the gym for the children! Come join us for a fun family night and get to know our new families!
Nine students in grades 6 and 8 entered submissions to the March 24th WNY Science Congress held at D'Youville College. Six students came out with awards; an impressive showing! 8th graders Madeleine Cook and Monet Thongchah both brought home Silver medals. Erin Mills and Anna McCarthy, both 6th graders, won Bronze medals. 6th grader Aleecia Becerril, was awarded the Buffalo Museum of Science Women in STEM award. Also in 6th grade, Nathan Hill won a Penn Dixie award. We are very proud of our "budding scientists" and confident their academic future is a bright one!
February started out with a successful HSA Family Social on the 2nd, ending a wonderful week celebrating Catholic Schools week. Open House for new families is on the 6th and 8th. The 13th is a busy day, beginning with early Valentine's Day celebrations during the day and the Science Fair from 7:00 - 8:30 in the school gym. The 14th is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Mass will be celebrated and ashes will be distributed. All classrooms will be involved in raising money for Cathoic Charities and the Catholic Academy family has a great history of generosity. Winter break is the 19th - 23rd and everyone is looking forward to relaxing and enjoying time with their families. School resumes on Monday, 26th. By then, we will be anxious for Spring. The showers keep coming but they have not "dampened" the spirit at Catholic Academy. We are partcipating in the Catholic Schools Night at Coca-Cola Field with the Bisons on May 5th and look forward to a fun-filled evening. The Annual Spring Show will be held on Wednesday, May 24th at 7pm. Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be participating. Mr. Cook has been practicing with the students for weeks and looks forward to a wonderful night of miusic. This free event will be held on Thursday, June 1st from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. This year we are collaborating with Community Music School. There will be an Instrument Petting Zoo, Family Sing-a-Long, Hula Hoop Contest and many more fun activities. Food trucks will be available and the event will be held rain or shine. Please join us for these fun activities that enhance the overall programming here at Catholic Academy!
Our Spring Open House is scheduled for Sunday, April 30th from 10:30 am - 12:30pm. Come tour our building, meet the principal, faculty and parents and learn more about the school’s programs. Registration for September 2017 is ongoing with preference given to current families and parishioners of affiliated parishes. Office staff will be available to review forms and answer questions regarding financial aid and admission. Tuition Assistance information is available if you are in need of financial aid. Catholic Academy of West Buffalo is pleased to announce the 23rd Annual Auction "Fun-Raiser", on Saturday, April 1st at 1069 Delaware Ave. This year's theme is Fool's Gold and we have added a Wine Wall which will be very exciting and a guaranteed win. The event is ADULTS ONLY and beer and wine will be available. Doors open at 6:30p.m. and drawings will begin at 7:50p.m. Our admission price is a low $10.00 and includes 25 tickets. Did you miss out on the kayak last year; well we have another one this year. Silent Auction incluides several baskets of cheer, Artwork, and (3) overnight packages. Special Raffle for Diamon Package at Salvatore's Italian Gardens. There will be over 100 theme trays and raffle items available. Back by popular demand is The Voice performer Keith Shuskie, who will begin at 6:45. Come one and all for a really fun evening!
The joyous season of Advent has begun at Catholic Academy. Each day begins with prayers and song around the traditional Advent Wreath. It is a wonderful tradition that the entire school community looks forward to. Fourth graders have started the 12 days of Christmas Kindess, performing acts of kindness everyday and keeping a chart of their work. Students in several grades will be making Christmas cards for clients of Meals on Wheels. 7th graders are making special Christmas cards for someone in Florida who suffered a major loss this year. 6th graders are planning a goodwill visit to residents at the Sheehan Residence. Third grade, along with other grades, will be visiting the residents at the Delaware Center Nursing Home, singing Christmas carols and spreading holiday cheer. On Tuesday, December 20th at 1:00p.m., Kindergarten through 2nd grade will perform in the Annual Christmas Pageant. PreK 4 "Angels" will have a small pageant in their classroom on Thursday, December 22nd at 12:30. Parents of these children are welcomed to attend. Once again, our youngest writers have won prizes for their submissions to area contests. 2nd grader Charlotte Woods won 1st Place for her essay in the SPCA Serving Erie County's Humane Poster and Creative Writing Contest. Two Kindergarteners, Elizabeth Santiago and Atong Guem won 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, in the WNED Go Writer's Contest. Congratulations to our very talented young writers!
On Friday, June 3rd, from 5:00 - 7:00p.m., the Home School Association is hosting a Family Concert on the Lawn. Award-winning kids entertainers will perform on our front lawn, and FOOD TRUCKS will be parked in our driveway selling kid-friendly (and parent-friendly) dinner items. We hope you’ll bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs and join us! The event will be held rain or shine and we look forward to having a wonderful family friendly night of entertainment.
