Catholic Academy Family Mourns the Loss of Beloved Teacher Mrs. Schmidt

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Mrs. Carol Schmidt.  Carol lost a valiant 2 year struggle with cancer on January 7th.   She began teaching at Catholic Academy in 1991 in Pre-Kindergarten and excelled in that role for 26 years, until her illness forced her to leave teaching.  She was an exceptional teacher and a role model for innovative Early Childhood strategies, including the inception of Universal Pre-K.  Her early childhood expertise and strategies were used as a benchmark for many well-respected programs that followed.  The number of children and families that Carol impacted is in the hundreds. There is probably not a student who passed through this school that does not have a fond memory of her.  The hallways are a little empty right now but her spirit shines in the faces of the beautiful children she nurtured and loved.  Please keep her beloved family in your thoughts and prayers.  May she rest in peace and continue to watch over and guide her classroom.  We will always love you, Mrs. Schmidt!
